AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Woodside Plantation in Aiken recently played host to the 40th annual Jernigan Memorial Golf Tournament, a cherished event that has become a staple in the local community. This year, the tournament took on a noble cause, raising funds to support low-dose CT cancer screenings, a crucial tool in the early detection and treatment of cancer.

Named in honor of Harry W. Jernigan Jr., the visionary founder of the Piedmont Augusta Foundation, the tournament reflects his enduring legacy of community involvement and healthcare advocacy. Each year, participants and organizers come together not just to enjoy a day on the greens, but to make a tangible impact on local health initiatives.

Bob Burns, the general manager at Woodside Country Club, expressed a deep sense of pride and gratitude for the event’s role in the community. “We relish being part of the CSRA and contributing to the groups like their Foundation,” he remarked. “Our involvement is more than just supportive; it’s personal. The people at Piedmont and the research center hold a special place in my heart because of their dedication and the good they do.”

Importantly, all proceeds from the tournament remain within the local area, ensuring that the support directly benefits the community it serves. The event stands as a testament to the power of local action in driving positive change.
