5-Foot Boa Constrictor Found in Car by Clearwater Police: A Typical Florida Surprise

In Clearwater, Florida, police officers encountered an unusual situation last week when a “slithery suspect” made an unexpected appearance on a vehicle.

The suspect turned out to be a boa constrictor, more than five feet in length, comfortably lounging on the hood of a car parked off Franklin Street.

In related news, a man reportedly stole a fire truck from a Tampa hospital and later crashed it in a hit-and-run incident, according to authorities.

After noticing the unsettling visitor, the car owner promptly contacted the police for assistance.

Sgt. Hinkebein and Officer Roy arrived at the scene and quickly assessed that the snake was probably an abandoned pet.

Sgt. Hinkebein came prepared. She took out a snake hook and used it to wrangle the reptile. The police department noted that the sergeant carries a snake hook in her patrol car for whatever situation might arise.

Officer Roy helped Sgt. Hinkebein scoop the snake into a box and they took the boa to a local pet store, where officials said it will be able to find a “proper home.”

In a social media post, the police department said Sgt. Hinkebein and Officer Roy handled the situation “like pros,” and added that this was “just another day in Florida.”
