5 hospitalized in crash with Polk County Fire Rescue battalion chief, agency says

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A two-vehicle crash Sunday morning involving a Polk County Fire Rescue battalion chief left five people hospitalized, according to the agency.

The crash occurred around 10:40 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 640 and Mimosa Avenue near Bartow, Polk County Fire Rescue said in a news release.

The battalion chief was not injured and five people in the other vehicle were taken to local hospitals, one of them as a trauma alert, the release states.

Pictures shared with the release show what appears to be a damaged minivan with its curtain airbags deployed and a Polk County Fire Rescue vehicle with a scuffed push bar.
