EVANS, Ga. – In a heartwarming community tradition, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, backed by generous donors and local businesses, brought holiday joy to 50 children during the annual “Day with a Deputy” event this past Tuesday.
The festive gathering took place at the Walmart located on Bobby Jones Expressway on December 23, 2025.
During the event, each deputy was paired with a child and their parent to assist them in selecting up to $150 worth of gifts.
This beloved program celebrated its 23rd anniversary this year.
“We want the kids to see a different side of law enforcement,” explained Sgt. Daniel Massey from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. “Often, when you see an officer, it might be associated with something negative. We want them to know we’re here as their friends too. We’re happy to help and support them.”
“It’s free stuff and shoes, they’re kind of nice too. I like it,” said Rakil Davis, a student shopper. “I got clothes, I like the Georgia Bulldogs, as what you can see right here. Yeah, that’s pretty much it right now. I’m very thankful, very.”
Officers from the Georgia State Patrol and Augusta University also participated.
