JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — A fifth person has been taken into custody nearly six months after a Jacksonville rapper was gunned down at a hotel in Tampa.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said 27-year-old Davion Murphy was arrested on the evening of Monday, Jan. 6 in connection with the murder.

The JSO’s SWAT team, along with its Gang Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service, reportedly found Murphy at an apartment on Labelle Street in Jacksonville.

Detectives believe Murphy is one of five people who plotted to murder Jacksonville rapper Julio Foolio back in June. Murphy was the only suspect still on the run, according to police.

The rapper, whose real name was Charles Jones, was shot and killed around 4:40 a.m. in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn at the intersection of Fowler Avenue and McKinley Drive in Tampa.

Investigators said Jones may have been trying to get a room at the hotel after he was kicked out of an Airbnb while celebrating his 26th birthday.

Jones reportedly posted his location online multiple times before the shooting. The suspects were believed to have followed him from place to place before opening fire on his car at the Holiday Inn, firing more than two dozen shots.

Three others were injured in the shooting but survived their injuries.

Authorities said the suspects were members of rival Jacksonville gangs. Sean Gathright, 18, Alicia Andrews, 21, Isaiah Chance Jr., 21, and Rashad Murphy, 30, were all arrested in July 2024 in connection with the murder.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said deputies have been working the case closely with the Tampa Police Department and have been in contact with them regarding Murphy’s arrest.

Murphy was interviewed by detectives and booked into the Duval County Pre-Trail Detention Facility.

“This arrest highlights our commitment and perseverance to solving this murder,” said JSO Director of Investigations and Homeland Security Mark Romano. “While it took some time, JSO and partners worked daily to hold these individuals accountable.”

Authorities said Monday the case remains ongoing. No further details were released.
