SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The Assembly of Phantasms (TAOP) is a performance troupe specializing in dark, theatrical interpretations of your favorite literary works. They’ve tackled Alice in Wonderland, Grimm’s Fairy Tales and The Masque of the Red Death. This time around they’ve got their eyes set on Shakespeare.
Using their traditional mix of cabaret style performances with literary text, TAOP takes on “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” In the Bard’s classic comedy, they delve into the heated relationship of Oberon and Titania, the king and queen of the fairies and what happens when they collide with the human realm.
Through spellbinding performances featuring song, drag and burlesque, TAOP brings the fantastical fairy world to life.
Playing the popular, mischievous sprite Puck is last year’s Mx. Savannah and So You Think You Can Drag winner, Boris Krawloff. “I actually spent a portion of my childhood obsessed with Shakespeare and dreamed about one day being a Shakespearean actor,” said Krawloff. “That didn’t pan out in any way, shape, or form so it’s completely unexpected but extremely appropriate that doing drag eventually wrapped back around into an opportunity to make that
dream come true.”
The show also features previous cast members Magnolia Minxxx, Ella Mentary, Valerie America Lavelle, Marty Milquetoast, Corbin Monoxide, Miss Ginger Darlin’ and Vandor Mahler. Cassie Cadel from The Bay Street Bombshells and Amerys The Empress from Club One Cabaret join this production.
This theatrical experience will be one that lingers long after the final act. The Bard would surely be proud.
