LYONS, Ga. () – Sunday night’s storm in Toombs County knocked down a man’s fence and flooded his yard in what he described as the worst damage he has ever seen to his property.

Every time heavy rains hits near Earl Browning’s Lyons home the rain flows down the street, through his fence, into his back yard, and through his back fence which is no longer existent after the Sunday storm.

“I put up a wood fence, and when the rain comes, it’s so high on the wall it tears the wall over,” said Browning.

He told this has been a problem for five years, and after pleading to city and county officials, there has not been any change.

“I went to the city and I asked them could you put up a cat base which is a hole where water goes down into the hole, and it runs into a pipe into the drain, and they said yeah, we can do it but it’s not going to rain that much, you don’t need one, but every time it rains, it floods my whole back yard,” he said.

Browning said the rain reached above five feet and overpowered the fence, breaking through his interior fence and flowing into his backyard.

“It doesn’t make sense,” said Browning, “I mean, they don’t do anything about it, and like I said, it’s an easy fix to put a cat base out there and run that pipe to the original drain down the street. The problem solved, all the water goes underground.”

has made contact with the Toombs County Commission and are awaiting a response.
