AUGUSTA, Ga. () – A man accused of fatally attacking a Helms College student in the institution’s parking area will remain incarcerated following a court appearance on Friday, February 13.

Justin Lee Johnson is charged with murder and weapons violations related to the deadly stabbing of Martin Gordon on October 13, 2025. Gordon was pursuing an education at Helms College to become an HVAC technician.

“There is no motive,” testified Darrell Mills, Gordon’s older brother, in the courtroom. “When I found my brother, I checked his vitals. His wallet was there, his keys were there, and his phone was there. Nothing was taken from him except his money. He was just a man with a backpack and a lunchbox.”

The trial date has not yet been set.

A preliminary hearing is slated for February 26.
