ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (NEXSTAR/KRQE) – Veteran actor and director Timothy Busfield has surrendered to authorities in Albuquerque, New Mexico, following child sex abuse allegations lodged against him earlier this month, according to multiple reports.
In a video obtained by TMZ and PEOPLE, the 68-year-old Busfield proclaimed his innocence, stating, “I did not do anything wrong.” He recounted how he learned about the arrest warrant last Friday, prompting him to secure legal representation and make a 2,000-mile drive to Albuquerque.
Nexstar’s KRQE verified through court documents that Busfield has indeed turned himself in to law enforcement.
The arrest warrant, issued last week, accuses Busfield, an Emmy Award winner, of inappropriate conduct involving a minor during the production of the TV series “The Cleaning Lady,” where he served both as a director and actor. He is facing two charges of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one charge of child abuse.
In the video, Busfield expressed his determination to challenge the allegations, declaring, “I’m going to confront these lies. They’re horrible.” He confidently added, “I’m going to be exonerated, I know I am, because this is all so wrong and all lies.”
According to a criminal complaint, one of the children told a forensic child interviewer that Busfield had touched him in his “private areas” while on the set of “The Cleaning Lady” when the boy was 7 years old. He said it happened five or six times between sets. The boy told the interviewer that it also happened three or four times when he was 8 years old.
A second child told investigators that Busfield had touched him as well, but did not say that it was in the same areas.
The first child’s mother reported to Child Protective Services that the abuse occurred between November 2022 and spring 2024, the complaint said.
According to the complaint, the child, whom it identifies only by his initials, has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety. A social worker documented him saying he has had nightmares about Busfield touching him and woken up scared.

The child was reportedly afraid to tell anyone because Busfield was the director, and he feared he would get mad at him.
The investigation began in November 2024, when the investigator responded to a call from a doctor at the University of New Mexico Hospital. The child’s parents had gone there at the recommendation of a law firm, the complaint said.
“The Cleaning Lady” aired for four seasons on Fox, ending in 2025. It starred Elodie Yung as a Cambodian doctor who comes to the United States to get medical treatment for her son, witnesses a mob killing and ends up becoming a cleaner for organized crime.
The show was produced by Warner Bros., which, according to the complaint, conducted its own investigation into the abuse allegations but was unable to corroborate them.
Busfield’s attorney and agent did not immediately respond to email messages seeking comment late Friday.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Albuquerque Police Department confirmed to Nexstar’s KRQE that the U.S. Marshal Service has joined the search for Busfield.
Busfield is known for appearances in “The West Wing,” “Field of Dreams” and “Thirtysomething,” the latter of which won him an Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series in 1991.
He is married to actor Melissa Gilbert. There was no immediate response to an email sent to her publicist.
