MAHOMET, Ill. (WCIA) — Mahomet-Seymour’s Adella Bird has seen big growth on the tennis court since taking up the sport as a freshman.
“I couldn’t get it over the net, it was pretty embarrassing,” Bird said. “I’m glad the coach took me on the team.” “There were no cuts that year, so I got a little lucky.”
Now a senior, Bird is the Bulldogs all-time wins leader, surpassing 70 career victories earlier this season, an honor she said is a credit to those around her.
“It was hard work, and thanks especially to my dad,” Bird said. “He helped me a lot in the offseason.” “He’s very motivating, especially during a point when you’re not allowed to talk, he still talks,” “I’m just so grateful for my teammates and my coach because he’s really inspiring.”
Bird hopes to continue playing tennis in college.
She is also now eligible for $1,500 cash prize we’ll give away to one boy and one girl at the end of the school year.
