DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Aetna Better Health of Illinois is setting up monthly pop-up farmer’s markets, providing Central Illinois residents with free produce.

The health care provider teams up with other organizations — such as Get Covered Illinois and Wellness on Wheels — to educate people on improving their health. At Friday’s event in Decatur, Aetna Better Health was giving people a bag of fresh produce at no cost.

Get Covered walks people through signing up for Medicaid and Wellness on Wheels provides free medical check-ups.

“We’re hoping they’re taking home the fresh fruits and produce to better their health,” said coordinator Becky Knick. “But also, it’s the health screening services. We can catch things like high blood pressure early, and that’s a win for us and the members.”

Aetna’s next pop-up markets are July 19 in Champaign and Aug. 16 in Springfield.
