AIKEN, S.C. () – The Aiken County Animal Shelter, in partnership with the non-profit group Friends Of The Animal Shelter (FOTAS), is set to hold a festive “Clear The Shelter” event on Saturday, December 13th, where adoption fees will be completely waived.
Organizers have noted a surge in animal intake, with over a hundred pets arriving at the shelter within the past two weeks.
“Each December, our goal is to ensure all the dogs and cats find warm, loving homes in time for Christmas,” explained Kathy Cagle, Programs Coordinator for FOTAS. “Finding homes for these animals means we can rescue even more. We’re facing a troubling rise in dogs being abandoned, with puppies left in boxes at our doorstep and dogs tied to poles. It’s a challenging period, and we need to create space to rescue more pets in need.”

Cagle added, “Most of our animals have lived in homes and are eager to escape the kennel environment, especially during the holidays. That’s why we are waiving all fees on Saturday, hoping compassionate people will come to adopt them.”
The Home For The Holidays “Clear The Shelter” event is scheduled for Saturday, December 13th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Aiken County Animal Shelter located on Wire Road.
