AIKEN, S.C. () – Residents in the city of Aiken are reporting discolored water throughout the city.

The city of Aiken released a statement on Facebook stating while the water is safe and no boil water advisory is currently in place, it is recommended that if your water is discolored, avoid using the water for washing clothes or other tasks.

City leaders have provided these precautionary steps to take if you are experiencing discolored water issues:

  • Run your downstairs faucets and outdoor spigots for at least 4 gallons or until it clears
  • If you have a multistory building, run the lower floors before the upper floors
  • If you have been out of your home and not using water, you may need to run faucets again if water has not been used for several hours
  • If after running water, the water does not clear up, there may be discolored water persisting in the water main. In this case, refrain from using water for some time and attempt the first step again

The city of Aiken also stated that the city is strategically flushing hydrants throughout the city to draw out the sediment, and it may take time to clear out in certain resdiential areas.
