Aiken, SC () – The City of Aiken’s 15th Annual Black History Concert was held Saturday at the Lessie B. Price Senior and Youth Center. This event highlights the triumphs of the Black community in Aiken and across our nation.

Nicole Hillary, Recreation Program Coordinator for the City of Aiken told , “Originally this event was held at Smith Hazel and over the years it has expanded so once they built this facility, they migrated the program here.”

Aiken District 2 City Councilwoman Lessie Price talked about the legacy which has brought us to this point, “When I look at my background there’s no way I could’ve made it without standing on the shoulders of so many individuals that helped to pave the way for people like myself.”

The program included a dinner served by NJ Catering, as well as live music from Chris Ndeti and the H.C.H. Pro. And of course it wouldn’t be a Black history concert without traditional African attire. “All the African attire that I’ve seen tonight is phenomenal. So many different outfits the headwear, the attire, the dashikis and the women and their attire the outfits from head to toe, to the shoes. Magnifique! It’s just beautiful.”

“We have come many many distances, still have a long way to go but the key here is to make sure that this generation, the next generation do not forget the history that was paved for us.” said Price.
