AUGUSTA, Ga. () – Every year on this day, Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior is celebrated for his leadership, love, and selflessness.
But Dr. King preached one thing that we are still trying to do as a country, unite.
“I mean, doctor king preached unity. he preached togetherness and he also gave us relevant calls to actions. and so being in the room today to give to share this message with augusta and, you know, unify around one common theme is going to be such a great opportunity for all of us and so i’m excited to be here,” explains Augusta District One Commissioner Jordan Johnson.
Yet, those like Commissioner Jordan Johnson and Ellis B. Albright believe MLK will not be happy with how Augusta is doing today.
Commissioner Johnson says, “I don’t think that Doctor King would be satisfied with where we are. he wouldn’t be shocked, but he would just tell us to keep working, to keep pressing because the word continues.”
“World today is really one that that, that we’re going backwards instead of forward and that is and that is truly sad. Hopefully, as I just stated, if everybody can be a drum major for love, justice and equality, we can get everything back on track again,” adds Unity Breakfast Committee Chairman Ellis B. Allbright.
But, there is hope, there is a solution.
Allbright says, “need to be more inclusive of everybody. it should not be whereas south augusta get less and west augusta get more, or east augusta get less, and so we need to be one augusta where everybody is treated the same.”
“I think that as a city we got a lot of potential, but it all has to be that we are together as one or as he said, we will die as fools.”
