WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WCIA) — For the first time since 2001-02, it’s repeat wins for the Illini in the rivalry matchup with Purdue to reclaim the Cannon trophy with a 43-27 road win, improving to 5-1 on the season.
Luke Altmyer threw for a career-high 390 yards, completing 19-of-22 passes and one touchdown.
His top target of the day was once again Hank Beatty. He caught five passes for 186 yards and one touchdown.
Ca’lil Valentine led the Illini in rushing with 95 yards and one touchdown. Kaden Feagin rushed for just 16 yards. Aidan Laughery had zero carries.
David Olano once again came up big in the kicking game, going 5-for-5 on field goals.
The Illini outgained the Boilers in total yardage 507-453. Illinois went 2-11 on third down conversions, while Purdue went 5-13.
Big Noon Kickoff will be back in Champaign for a second time this season for next Saturday’s morning kickoff against the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes.
