CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign County Circuit Clerk’s office has announced that it’ll host Amnesty Week in October, helping people save money when paying fines.

Amnesty Week will run from Oct. 20 to Oct. 31. The Circuit Clerk’s office said during that time, anyone who owes money on any criminal, traffic, DUI, ordinance violation or conservation violation can avoid paying late fees and collection fees.

This does not apply to fines and costs that have already been paid — or tax refunds which have been applied against what is due and owed.

To take advantage of the program, the Circuit Clerk’s office said individuals will first have to ask for a quote in their case, or cases, by sending an email to cccircuitclerk@co.champaign.il.us. The email must include the individual’s full name, an address, a phone number, email address, and court case numbers.

To find a case number, visit the Circuit Clerk’s website and fill in the individual’s name in the box called “Search by Participant Name.”

Payments can be made in person at the Champaign County Circuit Clerks Office in the Champaign County Courthouse from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To make a payment, individuals will need to bring their quote or quotes, and their driver’s license or state identification card.

Payments can be made by cash, cashier check, credit card or debit card.

Individuals can also pay online on the Circuit Clerk’s website. To make a payment, select the box called “Amnesty Week Payments.” Then, use the reference number or numbers received in the Amnesty Week quote or quotes to make sure the payment or payments are accurately applied.

Anyone with more questions should call 217-384-3725 or email ccircuitclerk@co.champaign.il.us.
