Albany teen arrested for attempted prison drop in Washington Co.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. ()Early Tuesday morning, around 3:30 am, Washington County Deputies were called out to a suspicious person spotted with a backpack in a cornfield near Washington State Prison.

Working alongside the Georgia Department of Corrections K-9 Unit, deputies quickly set up a perimeter while the K-9 team tracked the suspect through the field.

By 5:30 AM, the suspect was located and taken into custody thanks to the combined efforts of WCSO and GDC.

Arrested was 19-year-old Maurice Stewart of Albany, Georgia.

He is charged with:

  • 2 counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute
  • 4 counts of Items Prohibited by the Warden
  • 1 count of Trading with Inmates

He was in possession of:

  • 2 bottles of Promethazine
  • 1 pound of marijuana
  • 4 pounds of tobacco
  • 5 cellular phones with accessories and other miscellaneous items
