The window to claim a portion of a $30 million settlement involving 23andMe is quickly closing.
In late 2023, 23andMe, a well-known genetic testing and biotech firm, experienced a “credential stuffing attack,” leading to a significant data breach. This incident prompted a class action lawsuit against the company. By September 2024, 23andMe revealed to Nexstar that it had reached a tentative $30 million settlement to resolve the lawsuit.
In a surprising turn of events, by March 2025, 23andMe filed for bankruptcy. Subsequently, a judge approved the acquisition of the company by TTAM Research Institute in July. TTAM is a California-based healthcare company with a focus on genetics, led by Anne Wojcicki, who co-founded 23andMe and is its former CEO.
