TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)— A weak area of low pressure has formed east of Jacksonville, the National Hurricane Center said.
The area of low pressure formed 100 miles east of Jacksonville and is accompanied by showers and thunderstorms.
Environmental conditions could further develop the disturbance. A Tropical or subtropical storm could develop near the southeastern United States late today or over the weekend if the low remains offshore, NHC said.

Heavy rainfall is possible through portions of west-central and southwestern Florida through early Saturday.
Heavy rainfall is also possible through the coastal sections of the Carolinas beginning later on Saturday, NHC said.
“An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system later today,” The NHC said.
The chance of formation in the next 48 hours is 60 percent, and the chance of formation in the next seven days is 60 percent.
