Armed man arrested in Cerro Gordo; nearby school placed on soft lockdown

GERRO GORDO, Ill. — A brief security alert occurred at Cerro Gordo Junior/Senior High School on Friday morning following a report of an individual spotted carrying a gun nearby. The person in question has since been apprehended.

Principal Brandon Willard explained that the Piatt County Sheriff’s Office notified school officials about the situation at approximately 9:15 a.m. As a precaution, the school was placed on a soft lockdown while law enforcement addressed the situation.
