CSRA () – Local law enforcement agencies have taken a suspect into custody in reference to the murder of a homeless woman on Ellis Street back in July 2024.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Southeastern US Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Columbia County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team were executing a search warrant on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the 300 block of Sumac Trail in Martinez, Ga. Officers were attempting to locate and arrest 18-year-old Tracy Martin on a Grand Jury Arrest Warrant in reference to the murder of 54-year-old on Argie Jones on July 27, 2024 on 1965 Ellis Street in Augusta.
Martin reportedly fled with a driver as law enforcement was was arriving which led Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies on a pursuit through Columbia County. The chase ended at Washington Road and Bobby Jones Expressway in Columbia County when the vehicle struck another automobile head on.
Martin was taken into custody and transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on murder charges.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office arrested the driver who will face charges with the county.
Minor injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
This investigation is ongoing.
