UPDATE | July 16th, 8:20am – A significant breakthrough in a high-profile case: The McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office, together with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), has successfully apprehended Carter Martin Jarrard.
Jarrard had been on the run, sought in connection with the recent arson and burglary that targeted the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office Substation in Dearing, Georgia.

UPDATE, 7:15 p.m.: In an earlier phase of this investigation, officials from both the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI were actively pursuing leads to locate Carter Martin Jarrard, believed to be involved in the criminal act.
Jarrard was wanted on charges of arson and second-degree burglary. Authorities described him as a white male, standing at 6 feet 1 inch, with brown hair and blue eyes, and weighing around 165 pounds.

DEARING, Ga. () – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating a fire at the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office sub-station in Dearing, Georgia on Wednesday.
Officials say they received a 911 call around 5 a.m. on July 15 reporting a fire at the location.
According to the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office, a suspect is accused of breaking into the Sheriff’s Substation, taking miscellaneous items, and starting a fire inside the building. The fire is said to have caused substantial damage, but did not destroy the building. This fire is being investigated as arson.
Most of the damage is reportedly on the inside of a small brick structure located at 4590 Augusta Highway.
State Fire Marshall’s Investigators along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are assisting with the investigation of this incident.
