JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — East Tennessee State University (ETSU) hosted the Mary B. Martin School of the Arts Showcase on Sunday. The showcase featured the various artistic mediums on ETSU’s campus.

The event welcomed visual and performance arts students to showcase their work. Dancers, bluegrass players, painters and sculptors represented the art featured on ETSU’s campus.

Karlorta Contreras-Koterbay, director of ETSU Slocumb Galleries, said Johnson City is a popular spot for artists to debut masterpieces.

“So, ETSU is one of the gems here in Appalachia for the arts,” she said. “We have an amazing art and design program that has ten different areas.”

Students enrolled in classes geared towards ceramics, photography, creative writing and storytelling were included in the showcase.

“We are very excited that ETSU is a leader in arts and art education, and we have amazing students and alumni who are now in national and regional institutes that are part of their theater groups and musical bands,” Contreras-Koterbay said.
