MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — One juvenile is dead, and another is being treated for life-threatening injuries following an accident in Macon County where deputies said an ATV was pulling two boys in an innertube.

Deputies with the Macon Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Fort Daniel Road at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday.

The office said a 43-year-old man was driving a four-passenger ATV, and pulling an innertube that was occupied by two juvenile males. The Macon County Sheriff’s Office said that while turning on a downhill slope, the innertube slid out around the outside of the turn and hit the side of a large boulder.

Both the Mt. Zion Fire Department and Abbott Ambulance responded to the scene and worked to provide lifesaving treatment. Both juveniles were transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital.

One was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the other was transported to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield with life threatening injuries.

Macon County Sheriff’s Office said this is an ongoing investigation.

This is a developing story. WCIA will provide updates as we learn more.
