AUGUSTA, Ga. () – Augusta University organized a heartfelt “Sweet Sendoff” event on Wednesday to celebrate their women’s basketball team.
The team, fresh off their triumph as the 2026 Peach Belt Conference Tournament champions, set out from Christenberry Fieldhouse en route to Tennessee. They are gearing up to compete in the NCAA Division 2 regionals.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Augusta, as it’s their first conference tournament championship in 33 years.
“In our championship game on Friday, I emphasized to our team the importance of recognizing the change within us,” stated Celeste Stewart, the head coach of AU’s women’s basketball team. “Our mindset has shifted, and we now hold a championship experience. It’s crucial to harness that energy as we head into the tournament.”
Player Nadiyah Byard expressed, “With it being Women’s Appreciation Month, witnessing women excelling in sports and receiving support is vital for the world right now. It’s precisely what Augusta women’s basketball needs at this moment.”
