AUGUSTA, Ga. (Newsroom) – On Tuesday, Augusta city officials held an informative session for residents to discuss the upcoming Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST 9) and the Floating Local Option Sales Tax (FLOST) ahead of the scheduled referendum on May 19, 2026.

“SPLOST involves a one-cent sales tax dedicated to funding capital projects within Richmond County. Meanwhile, FLOST, the Floating Local Option Sales Tax, will impact property taxes, providing some relief for homeowners,” explained Augusta Administrator Tameka Allen.

The capital projects slated for funding include upgrades to Diamond Lakes, enhancements at the Augusta Soccer Park, development of the 5th Street Marina, and the expansion of sewer infrastructure in South Augusta.

Voters will have the opportunity to decide on both measures, which will appear as separate items on the May 19th ballot.
