Augusta, Ga () – Local demonstrators joining national protesters of the 50-50-1 organization which bills itself as a movement to uphold the Constitution and end Executive overreach. Today it held what it called a “Unite the CSRA” event at Unitarian Universalist Church.

The event featured tables from 10 non-partisan organizations throughout the CSRA. They say they are committed to informing the community about assistance, action, and their rights as citizens.  Organizers chose Saturday because it makes the 250th Anniversary of the Battles at Lexington and Concord, a turning point in the founding of our nation.

Lisa Wohlrab, Organizer at 50-50-1 Augusta, told , “We feel very strongly that building community is important. Not only is it important for if anything goes wrong in the future. But we also feel that it’s important to build those ties outside of social media.”

Organizers tell me the goal of the event was to bring organizations together to help relieve some of the stress surrounding the political climate. Along with tabling, attendees enjoyed sign making, snacks, and donations were collected for the Sexual Assault Response Center.

Ryan McKinley, an attendee told , “I think that getting and acting with fellow community members with common goals can be a really great way of both helping to alleviate anxiety or mental health about the future and also a chance to build bonds.”

“It’s important for them to be able to come out, actually meet the organizations and also learn about the organizations that are available in their community because a lot of people don’t realize the organizations that are out there.” said Wohlrab.

“I think that a lot of the tension that is in this country now is because we feel powerless. Like we can’t do anything to impact the broader world. When organizing with your local community you really get a chance to just feel like you’re making an impact, feel like you’re doing something and I think that’s just an innate thing that we crave as people.” said McKinley.
