AUGUSTA, Ga. () – An Augusta mother has been taken into custody for allegedly assaulting her daughter.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Deidra Shipes is accused of striking her 14-year-old daughter with a belt on her face and body. The incident reportedly occurred after the daughter failed to take “the cat with dark spirits” outside, leaving the child with visible redness and welts.

The daughter, refusing to comply, fled outside with her brother. Shipes allegedly chased after them, prompting the children to run back inside and lock the door, as described by the authorities.

During this chaotic scene, as the children called the police, Shipes reportedly began pushing against a window, ultimately breaking it.

Law enforcement officials also interviewed the victim’s brother, who confirmed the sequence of events.

The children were placed in the custody of a relative.

Shipes is being charged with 2nd degree Cruelty to Children.

She remains in the Richmond County Jail.
