AUGUSTA, Ga. ()- The Tees and clubs might be put up, but Golden Harvest Food Banks and the Augusta National Golf Club share the same drive.

“It was really just an incredible honor to be named a hometown hero from the Augusta National…” President and CEO, Golden Harvest Food Bank Amy Breitmann said.

During this year’s tournament, Golden Harvest President and CEO Amy Breitmann had the chance to speak on The Golf Channel about the impacts of the storm.

“I was able to represent our entire team, and speak on behalf of all of our volunteers, all of our partners, all of our donors, and just really giving an international message …”

She tells me while the nonprofit’s efforts alongside the Augusta National are plenty, during the time of the hurricane, is when the support was made even more valuable.

“During the hurricane, it was really one of the first phone calls that I made because, even though we have bags that we use to distribute backpack food for children across our community, we did not have bags– at the time of the hurricane– to pack emergency food ang get that out to our 24 counties…”

Breitmann and The Executive Director of the American Red Cross of East Georgia, Susan Everitt spoke with the Golf Channel about the help the CSRA saw.

“I just said it would be really helpful if y’all had any bags. So, the bags that they use for merchandise in all of their Pro Shops, there on the course, were actually used to pack emergency food. And they went out to our 24 counties.”

Breitmann says they’re working on a plan for the future on what to do if another natural disaster hits.

“We’re actually working with Feeding America to work up a really robust disaster plan, because there was a lot to learn. We were caught, very, by surprise with this hurricane. So, we definitely want to be prepared for next time…”
