AUGUSTA, Ga. () – The City of Augusta announced Monday it has reached a milestone in Hurricane Helene recovery, nine months after the storm caused severe damage across the CSRA.

As of June 30, the “coordinated debris removal phase under FEMA Category A (vegetative debris) and Category B (construction and demolition debris)” has been completed.

According to the city, approximately 3,438,219 tons of storm-related debris has been removed from public roadways, rights-of-way and other locations impacted by the storm.

“Although the federally supported curbside debris collection phase has now ended, residents may still observe ongoing recovery work in select areas, including stump removals and site restoration, as part of the City’s continuing long-term recovery efforts,” the statement read in part.

Residents with remaining debris are encouraged to contact the Augusta Landfill.
