AUGUSTA, GA – Augusta University’s Athletic Director, Ryan Erlacher, has officially stepped down, as announced in a press release from Augusta Athletics. Taking over in the interim is Melissa Brocato, who will assume the role effective immediately. Brocato, who has been with Augusta University since 1998, is not only the head coach for the softball team but also serves as the assistant athletic director for internal affairs.
In a statement from the press release, AU President Russell T. Keen expressed the significant role the athletics department plays in the university’s identity. “Our student-athletes, coaches, and athletics staff are pivotal in representing Augusta University in competitions. They drive a sense of pride in the transformative education, research, and clinical care that defines our institution,” Keen remarked.
President Keen also shared his confidence in Brocato’s leadership. “Coach Brocato’s competitive spirit and dedication to advancing Augusta University are commendable. She, along with the entire athletics department, will receive unwavering support from our leadership team. Together, we aim to enhance the experiences of our students, coaches, and fans to levels of unparalleled excellence,” he added.
The university has announced that the search for a permanent athletic director is set to begin immediately.
