AUGUSTA, Ga. – A long-anticipated project in Augusta is moving steadily toward completion, with excitement building around its potential impact on the community.

“This arena is set to be a landmark for years to come,” remarked Brad Usry, Vice-Chair of the Augusta Coliseum Authority. “I hope it serves as a catalyst for revitalization in downtown Augusta and beyond.”

The site earmarked for the future 10,000-seat arena has been bustling with activity over recent months. Construction crews have made significant progress, laying a solid foundation, completing the concrete deck on the second level, and installing a new sanitary sewer line.

As the calendar turns to a new year, the project gears up for its next phase, bringing the dream of a thriving entertainment hub ever closer to fruition.

The new year means getting started on the next phase. 

“We’re working on the 3rd level now, that’s about to be poured. Then the 4th level will go in, the suite level and concrete will be poured, and we’ll soon be working on pouring the ice floor,” Usry said.

As for the name of the arena, Usry says he and the Coliseum Authority will continue to discuss that item.

“No update for right now, but we’ll be sure to update the public when it comes time,” he added.

In the meantime, they are showing optimism for the new hockey team set to return for the first time in over a decade—which we recently learned will be co-owned by former Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow. 

“It’s ownership, and it’s the league they’re in. The East Coast Hockey League, the owner (Sawyer Group), and Tim Tebow? With that combo, we’re in good shape,” said Usry.

In the meantime, the authority is pushing to have the arena finished in time for Richmond County high school graduations in May 2027. 

“I think that’s optimistic. That would be the ultimate goal, to have graduates walk across the stage in May of ‘27 in June. But again, that’s very optimistic, and that’s really getting after it. I think we’re more optimistic about late summer/early fall to be ready for the hockey season. But, we’re still pushing,” Usry added.

The Coliseum Authority will have their first meeting of 2026 later in January.
