AUGUSTA, Ga. () – The Salvation Army of Augusta is partnering with Doc’s Porchside to collect bedding donations for individuals and families staying at the Center of Hope emergency shelter.

According to the Salvation Army of Augusta, more than 60 people rely on the Center of Hope for a safe place to sleep, and in July, the shelter averaged closer to 70 people per night, with most being women and children.

“We’re seeing more families than ever seeking shelter,” said Major Jonathan Raymer, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Augusta. “Something as simple as clean bedding can make a world of difference in restoring dignity and comfort during a difficult time. This drive will allow us to stock the shelter and better serve those who rely on us.”

Organizers say Doc’s Porchside is hosting the bedding drive at both its Augusta and Grovetown locations.

“We’re proud to partner with The Salvation Army to support our neighbors,” said Daniel Scholer, owner of Doc’s Porchside. “Our restaurants have always been about community, and this is an opportunity to ensure families facing homelessness have what they need.”

The community can drop off donations at either of Doc’s Porchside’s two locations or at any Salvation Army location in the Augusta area.

  • Doc’s Porchside Augusta: 3035 Washington Rd, Augusta, GA
  • Doc’s Porchside Grovetown: 5147 Bluegrass Trail, Grovetown, GA
  • Any Salvation Army Family Store (North Augusta, River Watch, Peach Orchard, and Thomson), the Kroc Center, or the Center of Hope

Donations Needed (new or gently used preferred):

  • Twin-sized sheets and comforters
  • Pillowcases and pillows
  • Blankets

The community can also ship items directly to the shelter by purchasing from The Salvation Army’s Amazon Wishlist, at www.salvationarmyaugusta.org.
