DALTON, Ga. () – The Dalton Police Department is investigating three shooting deaths at two different locations which investigators believe are connected.

Reports say a man shot and killed his wife at her home, then went to his girlfriend’s residence where he shot and killed her and then himself.

The alleged shooter was identified as 37-year old Kevin Andrew Akins of Dalton, Georgia The two victims were his wife, 35-year old Rebeca Nicole Akins, and his girlfriend 33-year old Cindel Mae Rhoden.

The Dalton Police Department website says units were dispatched to Rebeca Nicole Akins’ apartment shortly before 6:00 pm Friday evening, May 23rd to check on her welfare after coworkers reported that she had not been seen or heard from in several days.

After being unable to get anyone to come to the door, officers were let inside by apartment staff and discovered the Rebeca’s body with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Detectives were immediately notified and an investigation started.

They were soon able to find surveillance video of the suspect leaving the apartment at approximately 6:00 am on Wednesday, May 21st.

During the course of the evening, investigators were able to track the Kevin Akins’ vehicle to a second apartment complex.

While waiting for a search warrant in the early morning hours Saturday, police saw a man arrive at the scene and enter the apartment using a key.

Police later learned that he was Cindel Mae Rhoden’s father and he had come to the scene to check on her after she had not been heard from for a few days.

The man then came back outside and called 911 to report that he’d found his Cindel Mae and Levin Akins shot to death.

Investigators secured the scene and found that the suspect had apparently shot and killed her before killing himself.

The investigation of these killings is continuing.
