WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. () – Friday night at approximately 9:25 p.m., Washington County 911 received a call reporting a possible plane crash.

One of the individuals onboard contacted dispatch and stated that their aircraft had gone down in a wooded area near Highway 68 and Highway 540.

Deputies, firefighters, and EMS personnel immediately responded to the area.

Utilizing drones and coordinated ground efforts between deputies and firefighters, the two occupants were located in a wooded area behind the Limestone Plant on Short 68.

Both individuals were evaluated by EMS and found to have only minor injuries. The FAA was notified and will be handling the investigation into the incident.

I want to commend everyone involved,  from our 911 dispatchers to the deputies, firefighters, EMS personnel, and community members who assisted in the search and rescue. Teamwork is essential in situations like this, and last night was a clear example of what can be accomplished when we work together.

Sheriff Joel Cochran, Washington County
