Authorities Launch Manhunt After Inmate Flees Custody in Claxton

CLAXTON, Ga. — Authorities in Claxton are actively searching for a man who managed to flee custody following his arrest on Tuesday afternoon. The escape occurred while he was being transported to jail, as confirmed by the Evans County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO).

The incident unfolded during the transport after an altercation, according to an ECSO representative. The individual at the center of the escape is 28-year-old Dayquan Islar, who had been taken into custody for his involvement in recent auto thefts, officials revealed.

Islar made his getaway in the vicinity of James Street and Grady Street in Claxton. At the time of his escape, he was last seen dressed in black pants and a black shirt.

“Those who assist him in this matter will face prosecution for the harm these events have inflicted on our community and its residents,” stated an ECSO spokesperson.
