South Carolina leads the nation in a new category, banned books with a total of 22 different titles banned from schools. Now, several more are being challenged in the Lowcountry.

acquired 11 titles that are being challenged:

  • “Shine” by Lauren Myracle
  • “Skin” by Donna Jo Napoli
  • “The Bluest Eye” by Toni Morrison
  • “The Carnival at Bray” by Jessie Ann Foley
  • “The Duff” by Kody Keplinger
  • “Like a Love Story” by Adbi Nazemian

  • “The Infinite Moment of Us” by Lauren Myracle
  • “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini

The BCSD has already reviewed the first five books listed and have since sent them to the state board to review.

The woman reportedly submitted an additional complaint for “Like a Love Story” after contacting a local high school principal about the book.

The last five books were challenged in April.
