BEAUFORT, S.C. — Authorities have confirmed that a Marine was detained at the Beaufort County Detention Center on Thursday, following the issuance of two child sex crime warrants from Tennessee.
According to booking records, 22-year-old Joshua Daniel Chad Simpson was apprehended based on a justice warrant from Tennessee. Local law enforcement verified that Simpson faces charges involving two counts of child rape.
In Tennessee, child rape is characterized by the victim’s age being between 8 and 13 years old, with penalties ranging from life imprisonment to the death sentence.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office took Simpson into custody at the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort headquarters before transporting him to the detention center, as confirmed by an official.
By Tuesday, Simpson remained in detention. He may be held for a maximum of 20 days before authorities are required to transfer him to Tennessee.
