Beaufort Police Pursue Additional Suspect in September 2025 Homicide Investigation

BEAUFORT, S.C. — Shortly after announcing the arrest of an individual linked to a deadly shooting in 2025, Beaufort Police sought the community’s assistance on Friday to locate a second suspect.

The police are on the lookout for Gerald Washington Jr., aged 24, who faces multiple charges, including murder, related to the shooting of 28-year-old Christopher Jamal Burton on September 29, 2025.

Washington has become the second suspect identified in connection with Burton’s death. Jaheim Tyberous Watson was taken into custody on Friday and charged with involvement in the fatal incident, as confirmed by a police spokesperson.

Watson’s charges include murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, aggravated breach of peace, criminal conspiracy, and discharging a firearm within city limits. Authorities have stated that Washington is wanted on identical charges.

On the day Burton was shot, officers from the Beaufort Police Department responded to a call at 330 Robert Smalls Parkway, where they discovered Burton suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers rendered aid to the 28-year-old until EMS arrived.

Burton was taken a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
