BELLEVIEW, Fla. – The city of Belleview on Wednesday announced it has earned $1 million in state-allocated funds to support the ongoing construction of the city’s wastewater treatment plant expansion.

The funding stems from the Florida Fiscal Year 2025-26 Budget, signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday. The project aims to increase the treatment plant’s capacity from one million gallons per day to 1.2 million gallons per day, officials said, which the city expects will reduce its reliance on aging septic systems.

According to a news release issued by the city, the funds will be applied directly to the facility expansion, which has been in development for over two years and broke ground in February 2025.

“This allocation represents more than just financial support of Belleview,” Mayor Christine Dobkowski said in a statement. “It is a recognition by state leadership that Belleview is growing, thriving, and worth investing in.”

The city said the current plant is operating near permitted limits and needs an upgrade to handle projected demand, ensure regulatory compliance, and protect regional water resources.

The facility’s expansion is expected to be concluded by June 2026, officials said.
