SAVANNAH, Ga. — Friday night saw Benedictine Military School, Calvary Day, Toombs County, and Hampton County triumphantly advance in the football playoffs, each securing impressive victories.
Benedictine showcased a remarkable offensive display, overpowering their opponents with an 80-36 win. Quarterback Steven Cannon was a pivotal force, making significant contributions with multiple rushing touchdowns that kept the momentum firmly in Benedictine’s favor.
Meanwhile, Calvary Day delivered a commanding performance both offensively and defensively, overwhelming Whitefield Academy with a 52-7 victory. The Cavaliers’ defense was particularly formidable, maintaining a shutout until Whitefield managed to score in the final moments of the game, with less than two minutes on the clock.
James Cameron, head coach of Calvary Day, emphasized the importance of staying focused as the playoffs progress. “We’re pleased to have made it to the final four, but our journey is far from over,” Cameron remarked. “It essentially comes down to a two-game season now.”
“We’re happy that we’re in the final four but we’re not done yet,” said Cameron. “It’s a two-game season now.”
Toombs County, the defending state champions in Class A Division I, beat Northeast 24-6 to become one step closer to winning back-to-back state titles.
Hampton County advanced to the school’s first-ever state title game with a 43-22 win over Central. Star running back Jaylen Singletary provided much of the team’s offense with five touchdowns on the night.
Savannah Christian lost to Whitefield Academy 25-14 in its second loss of the season to the Paladins.
Jenkins High School fell to West Laurens 21-16, and Screven County lost to Early County 27-20, marking the end of both teams’ seasons.
