DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman University has picked a new president following student protests on the matter over the last year.

In a June 12 vote, Dr. Albert Mosley was selected by B-CU’s board of trustees to be the university’s eighth president, according to a news release.

His tenure is expected to begin July 7.

Mosely’s selection brings 30 years of “transformative leadership“ to the role and was the result of an intensive and carefully-vetted process involving 135 applications from across the country, the release states, adding each candidate visited the campus ahead of the board’s vote.

Born and raised in the rural east Mississippi community of Shuqualak, Dr. Mosley is a first-generation college student who has earned degrees from Millsaps College, Duke University, Yale University, and the University of Georgia. He joins B-CU from the presidency of Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa, where he launched innovative academic programs in aviation, cybersecurity, animal science, AI applications, supply chain management, an MBA, and more. Additionally, during his tenure at Morningside, he secured a record number of seven-figure transformational gifts that have bolstered the institution’s endowment and led to several new capital projects.

Throughout his career, Dr. Mosley has garnered a reputation for his entrepreneurial spirit, administrative acumen, and demonstrated ability to lead through seasons of significant change. He looks forward to ushering in a new era of growth and achievement at B-CU.

The university had announced a presidential search committee earlier this year, what followed protests from students over the search and calls for several members of the trustees’ board to resign.

Student Sagal Buchanan told News 6 that it all started back in October 2024 when the board of trustees voted not to make interim President Dr. William Berry the new university president despite a presidential search committee — which included students and staff — recommending Berry for the role.
