BLUFFTON, SC — The Boys and Girls Club in Bluffton is set to experience a change in leadership, sparking curiosity and concern among community members.

Molly Hornbeak, who dedicated over 27 years to the organization, was dismissed from her role in late September. Her departure has prompted questions and a wave of support from those who appreciated her contributions.

Supporters of Hornbeak have initiated a petition, emphasizing her pivotal role in the club’s development and success. The petition highlights her efforts in securing millions of dollars through grants, donations, and community partnerships, which have been crucial in transforming the club into a central part of Bluffton’s community life.

The petition states: “Known fondly as ‘Ms. Molly,’ she transformed the Club from a modest local initiative into a cornerstone of the Bluffton community and its youth programs. Her nearly 30-year tenure saw her raise vital funds, ensuring that countless young people had access to programs promoting academic achievement, strong character, leadership, and healthy lifestyles. Her unexpected departure has stirred the Bluffton community, leading to a surge of support from Club parents, alumni, donors, volunteers, and local leaders who acknowledge her significant impact on young lives and the community’s fabric.”

“Affectionately known as ‘Ms. Molly,’ she helped to grow the Club from a small, local program into a pillar of the Bluffton community and its youth. During her nearly three decades of leadership, she was instrumental in raising millions of dollars in grants, donations and community partnerships, ensuring that generations of children and teens had access to safe, enriching programs focused on academic success, good character and leadership, and healthy lifestyles. Her dismissal has shocked the Bluffton community and prompted an outpouring of support from Club parents, alumni, donors, volunteers, and local leaders who credit her with shaping thousands of young lives and strengthening the very fabric of our town.”

They want to know why “Miss Molly” was let go.

News 3 reached out to the Boys and Girls Club of the Lowcountry for some answers. They sent us this response,
