Bodycam and Dashcam Footage of Macon County Sheriff's Deputy Arrest Made Public

FORSYTH, Ill. (WCIA) — Recently released footage has shed light on the arrest of a Macon County Sheriff’s deputy following a high-speed chase that took place last month. The video provides a clearer picture of the events that unfolded during the early hours of that day.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, 31-year-old Andrew Ziegler from Maroa was clocked speeding along Route 51 near Forsyth at approximately 2 a.m. on December 15, 2025. WCIA obtained the footage through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, offering a detailed look at the incident.

Ziegler faces several charges, including speeding, attempting to flee from law enforcement, and driving under the influence. The Illinois State Police are currently conducting an investigation into the DUI allegations, as confirmed by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office.

The captured video begins on Route 51, just outside Forsyth, showing Ziegler maneuvering his blue truck through the snowy median before veering onto the roadway and accelerating away. About 40 seconds into the footage, the truck is seen back in the median, this time crossing over and continuing in the opposite direction.

A responding Macon County Sheriff’s deputy then finds Ziegler in the median again and tries to initiate a traffic stop, but Ziegler hits the gas and gets away. Finally, responding units find the truck in a ditch, stopped for good.

“He does have a cell phone on him, why don’t you try calling him again?” an operator said in the footage. “Tell him to come out of the truck.”

Some of the deputies then gather together, trying to figure out who fills out paperwork for a tow truck before shutting off the audio.

“Yeah, well, I mean, he fell down,” a deputy said. “He smells like whiskey.”

The sound comes back on about a minute later. Then deputes search the car.

“Is your gun in the truck?” a deputy said.

“I’m dumb, but not that dumb,” Ziegler said.

No gun, but they did find full fireball shooters in the glove box of Ziegler’s vehicle. Responding deputies then called in the tow truck and told the driver they may have to put a DUI hold on the pickup truck. Meanwhile, Ziegler is taken into the station.

His first court appearance for all three charges is scheduled for Feb. 11. WCIA called and emailed the Macon County Sheriff’s Office to see what Ziegler’s employment status currently is, but on Friday they didn’t have anyone in the office who was able to respond.
