ASSUMPTION, Ill. (WCIA) — The City of Assumption is under a boil order.

Everyone is asked to bring water to a “rolling” boil for five minutes before use of drinking, making ice, preparing food, washing dishes or brushing teeth.

In a flyer posted to Facebook by a city employee, officials said a water main break occurred Thursday afternoon. Crews replaced a section of pipe, but water pressure remains low due to the break.

City leaders estimate it’s “likely” the boil order will be in place for 24 hours until a test comes back negative for no harmful microbes.

Anyone with any questions is asked to call Jack Duncan with the City of Assumption’s Water Department at 217-820-0914 or the Christian County Health Department at 217-824-4113.
