Storm Team 3: Bitter cold is expected this week, watching weekend wintry weather risk

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Prepare for a significant drop in temperatures as a chilly spell grips the region in the coming days. Expect both day and night temperatures to fall well below the seasonal average throughout the week.

Tuesday morning will bring particularly frigid conditions, with temperatures plummeting into the upper teens and low 20s across the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry. Such cold weather poses risks, so it’s essential to take steps to stay warm and safe.

Remember to safeguard the “4 P’s”: people, pets, pipes, and plants, to prevent any cold-related damage or health issues.

A cold weather advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. on Tuesday, due to windchill factors that could make it feel as cold as 10°F to 20°F.

Despite the clear and sunny skies expected on Tuesday afternoon, don’t anticipate much relief from the cold. Highs will struggle to climb, only reaching the upper 30s to low 40s across most areas.

Temperatures will be slightly milder for Wednesday through Friday afternoon.

Highs will be in the lower 50s. However, morning lows will remain well-below freezing in the 20s to lower 30s.

A storm system is forecast to swing though the southeast by Friday and into Saturday. Some showers are possible late Friday and into Saturday.

Some guidance is starting to hint at the possibility of some wintry weather with this system on Saturday.

It is possible that some of us in the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry receive some snow. It is too soon to say where and how much we may see.

Temperatures on Saturday will start out below freezing and will only warm into the upper 30s to lower 40s for afternoon highs.

Storm Team 3 will have a better idea on what we can expect for the weekend as we get closer. This is still five days out and a lot will change between now and then.

Next week looks to be mainly sunny and chilly with highs returning to the lower 50s.
