SAVANNAH, Ga. – Following a delightful spell of warm weather, Savannah is bracing for a return to chilly conditions as we head into the weekend, with these lower temperatures extending into the coming week. Today, an advancing winter weather system from the west will bring increasing cloud cover, accompanied by brisk northeast winds. As a result, daytime temperatures will struggle to surpass the low to mid 50s, creating a cool, cloudy, and windy atmosphere.

Sunday morning could see a few light showers, and with temperatures near freezing north of I-16, there’s a possibility of brief freezing drizzle early on. In response, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Screven and Hampton counties, effective from 7 p.m. Saturday through 1 p.m. Sunday. While any freezing drizzle may create slick conditions on bridges and overpasses, it’s expected to melt quickly as the day warms up.

A temporary warm-up is anticipated tomorrow with the arrival of the next weather system. Sunday’s highs will reach the mid to upper 60s, although overcast skies and breezy conditions will persist. A heavier band of rain is expected Sunday evening into early Monday, coinciding with the passage of a cold front. Some showers may linger on Monday morning, but skies will gradually clear by afternoon, with temperatures dropping again to the low to mid 50s.

Monday night will usher in a more significant temperature drop, with lows plunging into the low 20s. By Tuesday, highs will only reach the mid to upper 40s. This colder trend is set to continue throughout the week, maintaining morning lows in the 20s and afternoon highs in the 40s and 50s. Looking ahead to next weekend, temperatures are projected to remain below average, with no significant warming expected until the first week of February. It appears we’ll need to acclimate to the cold for the foreseeable future.
