WRIGHTSVILLE, Ga. – An unsettling incident unfolded around midnight in Wrightsville when a police officer and a firefighter were suddenly confronted by a man wielding a large bladed weapon. The confrontation took place outside Sidetrack on East College Street.
In an effort to protect both himself and the firefighter, the officer fired multiple shots at the assailant. The suspect was quickly transported by emergency medical services to a nearby hospital, although his current condition remains undisclosed.
The firefighter suffered serious injuries to his arms and was promptly taken to a medical facility by a deputy in a patrol car. Fortunately, he is expected to recover. Meanwhile, the police officer involved in the incident did not sustain any physical injuries.
The firefighter sustained severe injuries to his arms and was taken by a deputy via patrol vehicle to a medical facility, where he is expected to survive.
The involved Wrightsville Police Department officer sustained no physical injuries during the incident.
Per agency protocol, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been notified and has assumed control of the investigation.
No names are being released at this time due to being an active investigation.
