AIKEN, S.C. – A serious house fire in Aiken County on Sunday morning resulted in injuries to several individuals, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
The blaze erupted on Richland Avenue West, prompting a swift response from officers just after 11 a.m. Upon arrival, they were confronted with visible flames and the alarming realization that occupants were still trapped inside.
Bravely entering the home through the rear, the officers discovered two individuals suffering from injuries caused by both the fire and smoke. These victims were promptly handed over to Aiken County EMS and transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The extent of their injuries remains unknown at this time.
In the line of duty, one firefighter experienced heat exhaustion but was treated on the scene and released. Fortunately, no further injuries among the firefighting team were reported.
One firefighter was checked out for heat exhaustion and released on scene, but no other firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
